October Half Term 2018 Events In Oxfordshire

Can you believe it’s half term already?!  We love Autumn and all the fun of Halloween.  Check out our list of October half term 2018 events across Oxfordshire and beyond to keep you and your family entertained.  There’s so much to choose from it’s hard to decide what to do!

Saturday 20th October

  • Story time and activities at Blackwells Book Store in Oxford 10:30am-12:30pm.
  • Model railway exhibition at Didcot Civic Hall 10am-5pm.  Fourteen different layouts, demonstrations, trade stalls and a tombola.  Adults £6, children free.
  • Twits optical tricks craft session at the Roald Dahl Museum & Story Centre 12pm, 1:30pm and 3pm.  £3 per person plus admission.

Sunday 21st October

  • Apple Day at the Red Lion in Britwell-Cum-Sotwell from 12-3pm.  See a giant display of varieties of apple, taste different ones and try jams and chutneys made by locals.  See the apple press in action.  Bring  a bottle and your own apples to make some fresh apple juice to take home.
  • Family Fun Day at McDonalds Milton services (Didcot) 12-5pm.  Activities, games, balloon modelling and face painting.  FREE

Monday 22nd October

  • Twizzling Tricks illustration and story ideas workshop at the Roald Dahl Museum & Story Centre with Matt Buckingham.  Get top tips on how to make your own amazing creation.  12pm, 1:30pm and 3pm.  £3 per person plus admission.

Tuesday 23rd October

  • There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Fly stage show at Cornerstone Arts Centre in Didcot at 2:30pm.
  • The Bounce Dept Halloween Spooktacular at Didcot Lesiure Centre 10am-4pm.  Suitable for ages 18 months- 12 years.  7-8 different inflatables to bounce on as well as Halloween inflatables, music and more.  Purchase tickets in advance for your time slot here: https://www.tickettailor.com/events/thebouncedept/198917/r/event
  • Arty Adventures at Sutton Courtenay Environmental Education Centre 10am-3pm.  Make spiderweb dream catchers and leaf flags with blackberry paint.  What else can you make with nature?
  • Roald Dahl activity day drop in at Vale & Downland Museum in Wantage 10am-3pm.  Lots of fun activities to celebrate the life of Roald Dahl.  Free entry (donations welcome).
  • Xplorer Orienteering event at Kingston Bagpuize Millenium Green 10-12pm with a Halloween theme.  FREE
  • Make your own dinosaur and find out more about them in this children’s workshop at River & Rowing Museum 10:30-12:30pm.  £8.50 per child.
  • Wonka’s Wondercrump Contraptions workshop at the Roald Dahl Museum & Story Centre 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm.  Find out about Roald Dahl’s love of mischievous machines and make your own junk modelling contraption.  £3 per person plus admission.

Wednesday 24th October

  • Fairy and Witches party at Ladygrove Children’s Centre 11-12:30pm £5 per child age 2-9 years.  Bubbles, music, games, dancing and more.
  • So You Think You Know About Dinosaurs? event at the Oxford University Museum Of Natural History 2-3pm.  Join biologist and TV scientist Bed Garrod to discover amazing facts you never knew about dinosaurs.  This will be following by a book signing.  Copies of Ben’s book will be available to purchase on the day.  £6 per person – must be booked in advance.
  • Roald Dahl activity day at Vale & Downland Museum in Wantage timed sessions (must be pre-booked).  Lots of fun activities to celebrate the life of Roald Dahl.  Free entry (donations welcome).
  • Monster Media Mash Up workshop at Cornerstone Arts Centre in Didcot for 9-16 year olds.  Make your own monster animation with ghoulish characters, sound effects and music.  10am-3:30pm.
  • Story time and activities at Blackwells Book Store (Broad Street, Oxford) 10:30-12:30pm  FREE

Thursday 25th October

  • Marvellous minibeasts at the River & Rowing museum in Henley 10:30am-4pm.  Free with admission.  There will also be lots of craft activities and a spooky Halloween trail around the museum.
  • Critter clay modeling at Roald Dahl Museum & Story Centre 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 2pm,3pm and 4pm.  £3 per person plus admission
  • Halloween fun at Sulgrave Manor with a pumpkin trail, autumn crafts and cook dough twists on the campfire.  11am-4pm.  Normal admission fees apply.

Friday 26th October

  • Spooky Halloween Spectacular in the Orchard Centre Didcot 11-3:30pm.  Sweet trail around the local shops, facepainting and prizes for the best fancy dress.  Waxy Handz will also be there to cast your hands.  Sweet trail takes place 2-3:30pm.  FREE
  • Halloween fun at Sulgrave Manor with a pumpkin trail, autumn crafts and cook dough twists on the campfire.  11am-4pm.  Normal admission fees apply.

Saturday 27th October

  • Halloween family disco at Marlborough Club in Didcot 7:30pm onwards.  £1.50 per adult with up to 3 children.
  • Saturday Science Club at Science Oxford for 5-9 year olds.  Activities and crafts to celebrate Diwali festival of light.  1.5 hour timed slots must be booked in advance and children need to be accompanied by an adult.  £8 per child, adults free.
  • Didcot Food Festival at Didcot Civic Hall 10am-3pm with demonstrations, tasting and lots of traders as well as live music and street food.  Mrs Bun The Baker will also be there to do baking with the children.  £5 adults, kids go free.
  • Halloween fun at Castle Quay Shopping Centre in Banbury 10am-3pm with crafts, face painting and trick or treat treasure hunt.  Lego Ninjago’s Kai will also be there for meet and greets in The Entertainer.  FREE

Sunday 28th October

  • Large Model Aircraft Show at the British Motor Museum with over 100 large scale radio controlled model aircraft.

Ongoing Events

  • Illuminated evenings at Fairytale Farm on Saturday and Sunday evenings Saturday 13th October – Sunday 23rd December and Monday 24th December.   £6.25 per person to enjoy the illuminations and either a hot dog or soup with crusty roll plus a drink in the Beanstalk Cafe.
  • Faurytale Baddies and Spooks at Fairytale Farm with games, pumpkin carving, biscuit decorating and colouring competition all included in admission. Free treat for visitors who come in fancy dress.  Saturday 20th October – Sunday 28th October.
  • Halloween fun at Stonor Park with a spooky trail through the gardens and pumpkin carving/painting.  Feel free to wear fancy dress! Saturday 20th October – Wednesday 31st October 10am-4pm.
  • Halloween Spooktacular event at Evenley Wood Garden (Brackley).  The garden wil be transformed into a Halloween Spooktacular.  Use your torch to venture on a spooky journey of ghosts, myths and legends.  Pumpkin carving, crafts, facepainting , wizard school, plus a fancy dress competition.  Wednesday 24th October – Sunday 28th October 9:30-4pm (open until 6pm on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th).
  • Half Term fun at the British Motor Museum with Professor Pickle and Doctor Pumpkin.  Live science shows on Wednesday 31st October at 11am, 1pm and 2pm.  All week there will be a black cat trail around the museum, Mission Plans interactive trail for budding detectives plus use invisible ink to write secret messages.  Saturday 27th October – Sunday 4th November 10am-5pm.
