We had the pleasure last weekend of being invited to see Sleeping Beauty at the Corn Exchange theatre in Newbury. Said to be a ‘spell-binding production full of songs to sing along to and stunning dance routines, plus plenty of magic and sparkle’, we couldn’t wait!
I’d never been to the Corn Exchange before. Wow what a beautiful building it is! The venue has such a magical feel to it with the beautiful drapes and fairy lights. The set itself was stunning with a beautiful sparkly curtain on the stage.
The show has a strong cast of adult actors (some of whom are regulars to the panto scene at the Corn Exchange). They are joined by 12 talented young local performers aged 8 to 15 years of age. The show has been written and directed by comedy theatre company Plested & Brown.
We had so much fun watching the show. It was full of jokes and silliness. There was plenty of audience participation too. It was great!
The story of Sleeping Beauty is very well loved. The Corn Exchange have produced a modern twist to the original tale here. There’s lots of songs and dancing including a fab solo by the fairy! Keep an eye out for the vicar too who seems a little lost. Will he end up in the right place by the end of the show?
We really enjoyed the show and highly recommend it for all ages. If you’d like to book tickets please visit the Corn Exchange website here: https://www.cornexchangenew.com/
