Summer Holiday Events & Activities in Oxfordshire 2018

The long summer holiday is upon us and it’s time to make some plans!  I love having weeks jammed full of fun activities, there’s so much to see and do.  Here are the summer holiday events & activities taking place in Oxfordshire (and beyond!) for 2018!

Friday 20th July

Saturday 21st July

  • Truck Festival at Hill Farm, Steventon 10am – 11pm.  Live music, fun fair, food stalls.  Book tickets at http://www.truckfestival.com
  • South Abingdon OPA play day at Southern Town Park 11am-3pm.  Entry and all activities are FREE.  Go Karts, science workshops, junk modelling, zorbing, bouldering wall and lots more.
  • Didcot Fire Station open day 10am-4pm.
  • Royal British Legion weekend at 4 Kingdoms Adventure Park from 10am.  Soldiers from the past present and future.  Knight shows, archery and medieval camp, modern military vehicles and stormtroopers.  In aid of supporting our Armed Forces.  Normal admission fees apply.
  • Summer musical showcase at Didcot Girls School featuring Oxfordshire Rock Choir, Benson Military Wives Choir and more.  3:3-5:30pm FREE

Sunday 22nd July

  • Pond dipping at Beale Park 10:30-12:30pm.  See what you can catch from the new pond dipping platform by the lake!  Then 1:30-3:30pm meet the animals, including snakes, tarantulas, giant insects and more!  Included in normal admission fee.

Thursday 26th July

  • Jokey Journals stories at Didcot Library 2-2:45pm for children up to 9 years old.  FREE

Friday 27th July

  • Outdoor theatre production of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland at Waterperry Gardens 5pm.  Take your picnic blankets or low backed chair to sit back and enjoy.  The show will be presented in Victorian costume with song, dance and original music.
  • Fuze coding workshop at John Hampden School in Thame  for 7-14 year olds.  9am-3:35pm.
  • Fleur Fest music festival at the Fleur De Lys pub in East Hagbourne.    Sounds from the 60s with The Zoots plus 80s Mania.  Day tickets £20, children free.
  • Superhero and villains weekend at 4 Kingdoms Adventure Park.  Normal admission fees apply.

Saturday 28th July

  • The elements picnic afternoon at Oxford Botanical Gardens.  Learn more about earth, wind, water and fire as well as live music, crafts and gardening activities.
  • Fleur Fest music festival at the Fleur De Lys pub in East Hagbourne.    Live music from C U Tuesday, Hope & Glory SKA and more.  Day tickets £20, children free.
  • Ferrari Family Day at Sonning Common. Dog show, Ferrari cars display, Bouncy castle, food, stalls, Thames Valley Air Ambulance and more.  £9 per person, under 6s free.
  • Superhero and villains weekend at 4 Kingdoms Adventure Park.  Normal admission fees apply.

Sunday 29th July

  • Thame emergency services day 10-4pm at Southern Road playground.  Meet the emergency services crews, take part in activities and have a look around the various emergency vehicles.
  • Vintage Transport Festival at the Oxford Bus Museum with frequent bus rides throughout the day.
  • Drink Up Sunday at Cogges Farm 11am-5pm.  Over 30 beers and ciders to try, all sourced from within 30 miles of Cogges Farm.  There will even be some local micro breweries!  Live music, children’s activities and bouncy castle.  Normal entry fee applies.
  • Fleur Fest music festival at the Fleur De Lys pub in East Hagbourne.   Live music from various acts.  Day tickets £20, children free.
  • Ferrari Family Day at Sonning Common. Dog show, Ferrari cars display, Bouncy castle, food, stalls, Thames Valley Air Ambulance and more.  £9 per person, under 6s free.
  • Style Acre Summer Fete at Savages garden centre in Blewbury.  11am – 3pm.  Live music, bar, mini golf, bouncy castle, stalls, games, BBQ and more.  All proceeds go to Style Acre who support adults with learning disabilities
  • Superhero and villains weekend at 4 Kingdoms Adventure Park.  Normal admission fees apply.

Monday 30th July

  • Fun In The Park 2-5:30pm at Stephen Freeman School in Didcot.  Bouncy castles, assault course, face painting, archery, etc.  Most activities are free, entry by donation.

  • Wildlife Wednesay at Mowbray Fields in Didcot 10-12pm.  Learn about the local wildlife and take part in fun activities outdoors.  Donations welcome.
  • Bicester OPA play and activity day at Garth ark 11-3pm.  All activities and entry FREE

Thursday 2nd August

  • Dizzy Dean’s magic show 2-3pm for children aged 3-9 years at Didcot Library.  Booking in advance required.  FREE
  • Family bushcraft workshop at Earth Trust 10am-4pm including how to build shelters and make a campfire.  Adults £22, Children £17
  • Fairy tales and unicorns at 4 Kingdoms Adventure Park.  Normal admission fees apply
  • Treasure Times at Didcot Baptist Church 10-12pm.  Crafts, games, singing, etc. FREE

Friday 3rd August

  • Summer festival BBQ at Boundary Park in Didcot 5-8:30pm.  BBQ, family cricket, sumo suits, bouncy castle, live music, flag procession, barn dance and more.  Entry by donation.

  • Didcot summer fayre at Edmunds Park 12-9pm.  Performances and demonstrations from lots of local groups, raffle, dancing, live music on stage from 5pm.  Lots of activities to take part in.  FREE
  • Family friendly Beer and Music Festival at Cornerstone Arts Centre in Didcot.  Over 25 beers, ales and ciders, BBQ and a feast of musical talent to enjoy each day.  11am – Midnight.
  • Be part of the National Trust‘s Big Camp at Waddesdon Manor.  Tickets include admission and a breakfast roll in the morning.  Pitch your tent in the aviary glade and enjoy a BBQ (extra charge) with other campers.  There will be fun activities to take part in including a campfire, stargazing, nature walks and more.
  • Open air theatre performance of Treasure Island at Waterperry Gardens 5pm.  Innovative staging, songs and magical storytelling.
  • Design your own PE kit bag with Little Foxglove Crafts at the Oxford Etsy Pop Up shop in Didcot Orchard Centre. 10-5pm £9 per bag.

  • Street food market ‘Bitten Street’ at Oxford Castle Quarter 11am – 3pm.

Tuesday 7th August

  • Character visit at Abingdon McDonalds restaurant 11-12:30pm

  • Animal antic stories at Didcot Library 2-2:30pm.  FREE

Wednesday 8th August

  • Cartoon drawing workshop at Wantage Library with illustrator Clive Goddard 10:30-11:30am.  Book in advance.
  • Animal magic event at 4 Kingdoms Adventure Park come and meet farm animals to birds of prey.  Normal admission fees apply.

Thursday 9th August

  • Circus skills workshop in the exercise yard at Oxford Castle Quarter. 11am – 2pm.  Juggling, unicycling, plate spinning and more.  There are plenty of deck chairs for adults to relax while the kids practise their new skills.  FREE
  • Treasure Times at Didcot Baptist Church 10-12pm.  Crafts, games, singing, etc. FREE
  • Animal magic event at 4 Kingdoms Adventure Park come and meet farm animals to birds of prey.  Normal admission fees apply.

Friday 10th August

  • ‘I really want the cake’ stories and crafts at Didcot Library 2-3pm.  FREE
  • Pond dipping at Earth Trust 10am-4pm.  Drop-in session.  £4 adults, £2 children.
  • Monthly Family Disco at the Marlborough Club in Didcot 7:30-10pm with lots of fun and games.  £1 per adult with up to 3 children per adult.
  • Rainbows face painting in the Orchard Centre, Didcot 11am-3pm.  FREE
  • Knights, Dragons and Trolls weekend at 4 Kingdoms Adventure Park.  Normal admission fees apply.

Saturday 11th August

  • Sci-fi weekend at Fairytale Farm in aid of Lets Play Banbury who support children with disabilities.  The farm is being invaded by well-known TV aliens and characters.
  • Knights, Dragons and Trolls weekend at 4 Kingdoms Adventure Park.  Normal admission fees apply.

Sunday 12th August

  • Vintage bus rides at the Oxford Bus Museum 12:15pm and 2:45pm.
  • Sci-fi weekend at Fairytale Farm in aid of Lets Play Banbury who support children with disabilities.  The farm is being invaded by well-known TV aliens and characters.

  • Garden Party in Wallingford Castle Gardens to celebrate 100 years of the RAF 1-5pm.  Stalls, activities, music, Williams F1 car on display plus RAF vehicles and motorbikes.  FREE

  • Wildlife night safari with Earth Trust at Castle Meadows in Wallingford 7:30-9:30pm.  £8 adult, £4 children.  Please book in advance.
  • Sand art at the Orchard Centre, Didcot 11am – 4pm FREE

  • Wallingford Bunkfest music festival at the Kinecroft.  Beers, ciders, music workshops and live music all weekend.  FREE (donations welcome to support local charities)

Saturday 1st September

  • Didcot family day at Didcot Civic Hall 11-6pm.  Live music, games, bouncy castle and food all day.  Tickets £5 for adults on the door, children free.

Ongoing Events

  • Artists Under Fire exhibition at Banbury Museum.  Prints, drawings and watercolours from the Ashmolean Museum’s collection depicting life on the front line during WWI.  Open daily Mon-Sat 10am-5pm.  Entry £5 for adults, £2 children (under 5s free).  Saturday 23rd June – Monday 27th August 2018.
  • Summer fun at the British Motor Museum from Saturday 21st July – Sunday 2nd September.  Land Rover explorer trail throughout the museum plus have a go at making your own Land Rover model.  Join a family Explorer Tour with costumed guide to find out what adventures some of the museum’s cars have been on.  Every Wednesday there will also be an auto-science show including demonstrations with ‘mad scientists’!
  • A man made beach is coming to Notcutts Garden Centre in Oxford complete with massive sand pit, children’s fun fair and entertainment.  Enjoy unlimited rides on the fun fair for just £4.99 per person.  Thursday 26th July – Monday 27th August. Sand pit entry is FREE
  • Wantage Lego Expo at the Vale & Downland Museum featuring lots of Lego models on display as well as Lego themed activities.  10am-3:45pm Saturday 28th July – Saturday 8th September.  FREE
  • Peter Rabbit:Mischief and Mayhem exhibition at The Oxfordshire Museum.  Discover original illustrations from the books and memorabilia.  Visitors can have fun helping Mrs Tiggywinkle hang up the laundry, visit Mrs Rabbit in the Burrow or help Peter Rabbit plant carrots!  Thursday 21st June – Friday 7th September.  FREE
  • Fairytale Festival at Fairytale Farm daily from 26th July – 3rd September.   Fairytale scarecrow making, Ugly duck racing, garden games, build Hansel and Gretel’s cottage, sandcastle building and more.
  • Knight School at Oxford Castle. This is running every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 30th July -31st August 12-1pm. Aimed at 5-11 year olds.  Learn sword fighting, archery and design your own shield.  Booking advised.
