What’s On In Oxfordshire Easter Holidays 2019

The Easter holidays are almost upon us!  There are LOADS of events taking place across Oxfordshire and beyond.  You can easily find something to suit all ages and interests here.  Lets hope for great weather so we can get outdoors and enjoy celebrating Spring!

Saturday 6th April

  • Saturday Science Club egg drop challenge at The Discovery Zone (The Basement, Oxford Centre For Innovation).    Aimed at age 5-9 year olds with an accompanying adult.  3 separate sessions 10-11:30am, 12:30-2pm and 2:30-4pm.  Tickets cost £8 per child and must be booked in advance.
  • Print a keepsake on the hand-press 12-2pm at Weston Library
  • Easter Fete at Abbey Grounds in Abingdon 12:30-3:15pm.  Live music, food stalls, spring crafts, games and stalls.  Free entry.
  • Science Saturdays at the Oxford University Museum of Natural History 12-4pm.  Meet real scientists and have a look at historic fossils from the museum’s collection.  Free drop in.
  • Funky chicken craft workshop at Cornerstone Arts Centre 12-4pm.  Free drop in.
  • Easter craft afternoon at Harwell Village Hall 1:30-3:30pm.  Have a go at making suncatchers, bunny bunting, decopatch decorations, Easter wreaths, block printing and more.  £5 per child (adults free).  Your ticket includes a drink and 1 craft project, more projects can be purchased on the day.  All proceeds from this event go to charity.

Sunday 7th April

  • Family Friendly Sundays at the Oxford University Museum of Natural History 2-4pm.  Trails, crafts and backpacks with the museum volunteers.  Free drop in.
  • Story Skirts interactive theatrical show at Cornerstone Arts Centre.  2pm in the courtyard outside the centre.  Free!

Monday 8th April

  • Mud Pie Monday at the Earth Trust (Little Wittenham).  Come and get messy playing outdoors 10-12pm.  £4 suggested donation per child.
  • Learn all about women scientists who have discovered everything from fossils to comets.  Author Julia Goulding will also be doing readings from her Curious Science Quest books.  1-4pm at the Oxford University Museum Of Natural History.  Free drop in.

Tuesday 9th April

  • Spring themed craft activities at Harcourt Arboretum 1-4pm. £2 per child.  Normal admission fees apply.

Wednesday 10th April

  • Wildlife Wednesday at Neptune Woods 10-12pm.  Explore and take part in nature based activities.  Suggested donation £2 per child.
  • Build a mini bug hotel to take home.  £5 per hotel at Beale Park 10:30-12:30pm.  Normal admission fee applies.
  • Meet the bugs at Beale Park 1:30-3:30pm.  Normal admission fees apply.

Thursday 11th April

  • Family music workshop at Abingdon Music Centre 10-2:45pm.  Free workshop for families.  Try out a ukulele and other instruments, make some junk percussion instruments, play rhythm games and more.  Book in advance as space is limited http://www.abingdonmusic.co.uk
  • Poos from the past at Wallingford Museum 10:30-11:30am.  Learn how archaeologists excavate poo and what we can learn from it.  Free for children and season pass holders.  Adults need to purchase a season pass for £5.
  • Handle objects important for celebrating Spring around the world at Pitt Rivers Museum.  Free drop in event
  • Have a go at Japanese cherry blossom inspired crafts at the Ashmolean Museum.  Free (donations welcome).

Friday 12th April

  • Family bushcraft activity day at Earth Trust 10-4pm.  Make shelters, build a fire and learn how to use a knife safely in the wild.  Take a packed lunch and enjoy some treats cooked on the campfire.  £22 for adults, £17 for kids.  Must be booked in advance.
  • Family disco at The Marlborough Club (Didcot) 7:30pm.  Lots of dancing and fun and games.  £1.50 per adult, kids free (max 3 per adult).
  • We’re Going On An Egg Hunt story time at Didcot Library 2-3pm aimed at 4-10 years with Easter crafts.  FREE

Monday 15th April

  • Design your own marble maze at the Museum of Oxford.  Suitable for age 6+.  Various sessions 11-3:45pm.  Book in advance.  £7 per child

  • Easter trail around the Orchard Centre in Didcot 11am-4pm. Have your face painted and receive your bunny ears and tail before following the trail in search of bunnies. Find them all to receive a chocolate prize. 
  • Story time with children’s author Rachel Jane 10:30am at Didcot Library for ages 3-7 years.  Free but booking required due to limited space.

  • Night safari at Mowbray Fields 7:30-9:30pm.  Guided walk of the nature reserve setting small mammal traps and listening to bats using the bat detectors.  Once its dark set up a moth trap and see how many different ones you get.  £10 per adult £5 per child. Must be booked in advance.

Wednesday 17th April

Thursday 18th April

  • Earth, Moon and Sun family science day at Cornerstone Arts Cente Didcot.  Hands-on activities to take part in, astronaut training and planetarium shows.  10am-3pm Free event!

Friday 19th April

  • Non-edible egg hunt and crafts available at Didcot library throughout the holidays. Free

  • Easter trail at the Museum Of The History Of Science in Oxford.  6th-21st April.  Free drop in.
  • Easter wonderland at Blenheim Palace in the Pleasure Gardens 19th-22nd April.  Lots of interactive experiences, family-friendly activities and shows.  There will also be a fairground and circus skills activities. 
  • Farmer Carter’s Courtyard will be at Millets Farm every day 6th-20th April.  Take part in quiz trails and spring activities in the woodlands, fort maze and courtyard.  You can also enjoy tractor rides and baby animals.
  • Easter Play Rangers will be at Rose Hill Community Centre 9th-11th and 16th-18th April 11am-3pm.  Lots of fun and games all free to enjoy.

  • Come and meet the ‘Spring Babies’ at Green Dragon Eco Farm daily 6th-22nd April.  Lots of animal encounters, arts and crafts, quiz trail, special guests including the RSPB and more.  All activities included in standard admission fee.
  • Fascination Space will be at Cornerstone Arts Centre in Didcot 9th-13th and 16th-17th April.  A 2 hour space experience for adults and children including virtual reality experience, eat like an astronaut, try on a space suit and handle space rocks.  Tickets must be booked in advance.
  • Throughout March and April you can take part in the all new egg themed CotsWild Explorer trail at Cotswold Wildlife Park.  The pack costs £2.50 and includes a lanyard, pop badge and pencil.  10% of proceeds goes to penguin conservation.  Normal admission fee applies.
