February Half Term Events in Oxfordshire 2019

Can you believe it’s February school holidays already?!  Here’s an epic list of half term events in Oxfordshire and beyond for 2019.  We’ll be adding to it as more events appear so keep checking back to see what’s new.  Have a great week!

Saturday 16th February

  • Nature Explorers Club for 5-8 year olds at the Nature Discovery Centre in Thatcham 10am-12pm.  Themed hands on wildlife activities, crafts and play.  Come dressed for muddy play and cooking snacks on the campfire.  £5 per child.  Children must be accompanied by an adult.  Book in advance.
  • Maker Club Juniors will be learning all about electrical circuits at The Basement (Oxford Centre For Innovation) 10-11:30am.  Once they’ve learnt how a circuit works they’ll design and make their own light up card to take home.  Suitable for ages 9-12 years.  £8 per child.
  • Make your own paper cake/pudding collage at Cornerstone Arts Centre, Didcot.  1-4pm Free drop in workshop.

Sunday 17th February

Monday 18th February

  • Mud pie Monday at the Earth Trust in Little Wittenham 10am-12pm.  Have fun in the woodland mud kitchen.  Wellies and waterproofs advised! Bring your own buckets and spades if you have them.  £4 suggested donation per child.  No need to book.
  • Find out how bacteria battle each other to survive and how they help us at the Oxford University Museum of Natural History.  1-4pm drop in session. Join in with bacteria themed crafts and games.  Free
  • Stomp and roar around the Oxford University Museum of Natural History and spot some dinosaur friends.  10:30-1:30pm aimed at under 5s.  Free drop in session.

Tuesday 19th February

  • Tree climbing at the Earth Trust in Little Wittenham 10am-5pm.  1 hour sessions with 6 people per group.  Use ropes and harnesses to reach the treetops!  Minimum age 6 years, adults welcome to have a go too! Booking essential.  £20 per person.
  • Build a bird nesting box and Valentine themed bird feeder at the Nature Discovery Centre in Thatcham 11-12pm, 1-2pm, 3-4pm.  £10 per box (1 suggested per family).  Book in advance.
  • Love Your Birds event at Sutton Courtenay Environmental Education Centre 10am-3pm.  Find out all about birds and how you can help them through the winter.  Aimed at children 4-11 years.  £5 per child, book in advance.  Children must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Find out how bacteria battle each other to survive and how they help us at the Oxford University Museum of Natural History.  1-4pm drop in session. Join in with bacteria themed crafts and games.  Free
  • Find out about mice and make your own mouse out of junk modelling plus a habitat to hide it in at the River and Rowing Museum 10:30-12:30pm.  For ages 4-7 years. £8.50 per child, booking essential.  Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Wednesday 20th February

  • Wildlife Wednesday at Mowbray Field in Didcot 10am-12pm.  Learn about the wildlife living on your doorstep with activities and crafts.  £2 suggested donation per child.  All ages welcome, no need to book.
  • Love Your Birds event at Sutton Courtenay Environmental Education Centre 10am-3pm.  Find out all about birds and how you can help them through the winter.  Aimed at children 4-11 years.  £5 per child, book in advance.  Children must be accompanied by an adult.

  • Find out how animals adapt for the winter and make a bird feeder from a plastic bottle at the River and Rowing Museum 10:30-12:30pm.  Aimed at children aged 7-11 years.  £8.50 per child, booking essential.  Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Thursday 21st February

  • Brass rubbing workshop at the Vale and Downland Museum in Wantage 10am-12pm.  Drop in session for all ages.  Free, donations welcome.
  • Love Your Birds event at Sutton Courtenay Environmental Education Centre 10am-3pm.  Find out all about birds and how you can help them through the winter.  Aimed at children 4-11 years.  £5 per child, book in advance.  Children must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Discover extremes of temperature at the River and Rowing Museum through a variety of crafts 10:30-4pm.  Make a volcano, weather vane or a sundial. Free with admission.

Friday 22nd February

  • Forest school for under 11s at the Earth Trust in Little Wittenham 10am-12pm.  Hands on learning experiences in the woodlands.  £4 suggested donation per child, no need to book.
  • Make a Chinese dragon fire clock at the History of Science Museum in Oxford 2-4pm.  Aimed at ages 7+.  £3 donation to cover cost of materials.  No need to book.
  • Make your own bird box and tasty bird treats 10am-12pm at Sutton Courtenay Environmental Education Centre.  Over 8s only, children must be accompanied by an adult.  £10 per child.  Booking essential.
  • Nature inspired Spring themed craft sessions at the Nature Discovery centre in Thatcham 11am-3pm for ages 4-8 years with their grown ups.  £3 per child, £5 for 2 children.  Book session time in advance.
  • Be inspired by William Morris and make a banner about you at the River and Rowing museum 10:30-12:30pm.  Aimed at age 4-7 years.  £8.50 per child, booking essential.  Children must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Harry Potter themed activities at Didcot Library 2-3:30pm.  Games, activities and quiz aimed at 8-11 years.  Dress up encouraged!  Free session, just turn up.

Ongoing Events

  • The Science of Power half term activities at the British Motor Museum 16th-24th February.  Take part in the fastest car family trail around the museum, build your own jet powered car or enjoy one of the daily science shows with Professor Pickle and Doctor Pumpkin.  All included in admission fee and your ticket lasts a whole year!
  • Spring In Your Step family trail at the Nature Discovery Centre in Thatcham 16th-24th February 11am-3pm daily.  Trail sheets cost £1.50 including a prize for the child, 50p for additional children.  Dogs on leads welcome.
  • Intu shopping centre Milton Keynes will be hosting lots of dinosaur activities all free of charge throughout half term week.  Meet a dinosaur, do the fossil trail, get hands on with real fossils, arts and crafts, story time and more.
  • Scarecrows tractor trailer rides at Roves Farm daily 16th-24th February.
  • Craft activities all week 16th-24th February at Fairytale Farm including make your own book mark or decorate a Valentine’s cookie.  All included with the entry fee.  Plus cuddle the new baby bunnies!
  • Steam days at Didcot Railway Centre 16th-17th, 20th, 23rd-24th February.  Enjoy the GWR museum, restoration workshop and as many train rides as you like all day.
