What’s On Christmas Holidays 2017 – South East

Can you believe the Christmas holidays are already upon us?!  While I’m sure you’ll be busy visiting friends and family maybe there are some days when you just need to get out of the house for a few hours of family fun?  I have got 2 weeks off work with the kids and intend to make the most of it.   There are lots of festive activities on offer.  Check out whats on below (please remember to double check attraction websites to confirm opening times as these may vary due to weather conditions).

  • Festive craft fun at the Vale And Downland Museum in Wantage on Thursday 21st December 10am-1pm.  Free event but do please leave a donation for this fab musuem.
  • Inflatable Christmas Wonderland at Didcot Leisure Centre. 22nd, 23rd and 30th December.  £7.50 per child, adults free for 1.5 hours bounce time.  Tickets must be bought in advance here The Bounce Department
  • Create your own dream cushion at the Roald Dahl Museum on Wednesday 27th December during workshops at 12pm, 1:30pm or 3pm.  £3 per person plus normal museum entry fee.
  • Mince pie steam train specials at the Chinnor and Princes Risborough Railway on 28th, 30th, 31st December and 1st January.  Enjoy a complimentary mince pie and hot drink during your 55 minute round trip.  Up to 2 children can travel for £1 each when accompanied by an adult (Adults £11).
  • Make a dream catcher at the Roald Dahl Museum.  Workshops at 12pm, 1:30pm and 3pm on Saturday 30th December.  £3 plus normal admission fee applies.
  • Fun-filled family magic show at the Roald Dahl Museum on Sunday 31st December at 12pm, 1:30pm and 3pm.  £3 per person plus normal museum admission fee.
  • Free vintage bus rides at the Oxford Bus Museum on Monday 1st January
  • 2nd-5th January have a go at designing a new car out of Lego for the British Motor Museum’s 2018 Motor Show Brochure!  Also from 2nd -7th January enjoy trail sheets around the museum and listen as costumed character ‘Torchy Blane’ reports on ‘new’ cars from 1927!

  • Illuminated woodland walk at Basildon Park 10am-5pm daily until 7th January. Normal admission fees apply.
  • Billy and The Minpins exhibition at the Roald Dahl Museum. 7th September 2017- 15th April 2018
  • Illuminated weekends at Fairytale Farm every Saturday and Sunday 5-9pm until 17th December and 2oth-24th December.
  • Enchanted Menagerie at Waddesdon Manor with animal themed rooms and children’s trail, Christmas Imaginarium and Willow lantern walk.  Usual admission fees apply. 11th Nov-2nd Jan
  • The BFG in Pictures.  An exhibition of Quentin Blake’s illustrations at the River and Rowing Museum in Henley 19th October 2017-21st January 2018. Normal admission fees apply.
  • Real ice rink at Millets Farm 18th November – 4th January.  Sessions are 45 minutes long and include skate hire.  Prices start from £6.50.
  • 24th November – 23rd December Find Santa’s reindeer around the grounds at Waterperry Gardens, then collect a Christmas treat.  £2 child plus adult admission.
  • Christmas at Blenheim Palace 24th November – 1st January.  Singing Christmas trees, vintage carousel, tasty treats and more.  Adults £16.50. Children £10.50, Under 5s free.
  • Christmas scarecrow trail in East Hendred village.  Pick up your map for £1 from the village shop.  16th December – 6th January 2018.
  • Elf Trail in Didcot.  Pick up a map from Cornerstone or Changing Lives Charity Shop for £1.  Saturday 16th December – 6th January 2018.
  • British Motor Museum festive fun.  Follow the Christmas trail and help the mechanics get Santa’s sleigh fixed ready for the big night!  At 1:30pm every day the elves will stop by to give a special festive tour of the museum.  Normal entry fees apply. 8th – 23rd December.
  • Ice skating at Boundary Park, Didcot 18th – 27th December 2-8pm.
  • Exhibition of lanterns and theatre design at the Cornerstone Arts Centre in Didcot.  See the lanterns made by local people plus costume and set designs for their fabulous show The Nutcracker and The Mouse King.  Free in the gallery. 22nd November – 7th January.
